Gilgandra Shire is located in the central west of NSW. The Shire is predominately an agricultural area with sheep, beef cattle and winter cereal cropping the main enterprises.

The famous 1915 Coo-ee March started from Gilgandra and in times gone by Gilgandra was known as the town of windmills.
