Cowra Shire is located in central NSW, with the Lachlan River running through the Shire and Wyangala Dam at its headwaters.

The Shire boast a number of small villages and is largely driven by the agriculture sector and supporting industries such as health care, wholesale trade, manufacturing, education and retail trade.
